CAROLE IRVINE    

Carole Irvine was born in Scotland and studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where she won many of the major prizes including the Governors' Recital Prize, the Margaret Dick Competition, the Ramsay Calder Debussy Prize and the John Ireland Competition. She has worked extensively both on the concert platform as well as on the operatic stage.

Carole began her career working with the chorus of La Scala, Milan and then spent some time with both Glyndebourne Festival Opera and Glyndebourne Touring Opera. Whilst working there she understudied the role of 'Zena' in Katya Kabanova and was soloist in The Royal Gala Performance in extracts from Mozart's Idomeneo. Since then she has sung the role of 'Hermia' in A Midsummer Night's Dream with Broomhill Opera and the 'Second Woman and Witch' in Dido and Aeneas with the London Festival Orchestra in the UK and in Delphi, Greece. She has also performed the role of 'Hansel' in Hansel and Gretel with Palace Opera at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and 'Meg Page' in the same companies production of Falstaff at Holland Park. She is an accomplished performer in contemporary music and had sung the role of 'Madame Popova' in Walton's The Bear for Jigsaw Music Theatre. She has created roles in several productions of the young Scottish composer Alasdair Nicolson including the 'Narrator' in The Ballad of Bulbous Sniff at the Purcell Room, 'Catalyst' in Lanark at the Edinburgh Festival, 'Maria' and 'The Clown' in Cat Man's Tale which toured the UK and the leading role in his most recent opera, Ice at the People's Palace in London. Frasquita in Carmen at Richmond Theatre, and the Mother in Opera Circus' new production Arcane.

On the concert platform she has performed both as a recitalist and in oratorio including Mozart's Coronation Mass and Beethoven's Mass in C with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Opera Gala performances with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Carole has broadcast on both radio and television and recorded a solo recital for BBC Radio Scotland. Most recently she was soprano soloist with the LSO in Nicolson's Four Tales of Enchantment.

ELDRYDD CYNAN JONES  

Eldrydd Cynan Jones was born in Treorchy and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music where she was awarded scholarships from the Peter Moores Foundation and the Countess of Munster Fellowship. During this time she was also the winner of the W. Towyn Roberts Scholarship at the National Eisteddfod, a finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier Competition at the Wigmore Hall and was also chosen to represent the college at the Aix-en-Provence International Festival, performing Britten’s "Les Illumination"

Following her time at Manchester, Eldrydd quickly established herself as a popular concert and recital Artist, much sought after by Choral and Music Societies throughout Britain with a vast repertoire ranging from Bach and Mozart to Mahler and Verdi. Notable performances during this period include Bach’s "Mass in B minor" and Handel’s "Messiah" conducted by Stephen Cleobury at King’s College Chapel, Cambridge; Mendelssohn’s "Elijah" with Bryn Terfel and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales under the baton of Richard Hickox; Gala Opera Night at the Welsh Proms with Owain Arwel Hughes and the Halle Orchestra at St. David’s Hall, Cardiff. In 1994 Eldrydd won the "Young Welsh Singer " Competition and then went on to represent Wales in the prestigious "Cardiff Singer of the World" in 1995. One of the most rewarding experiences of the competition was to be chosen by Dame Joan Sutherland as one of only two singers to participate in a Masterclass given by the legendary Soprano, which was later televised on BBC2.

Eldrydd’s operatic repertoire includes the title role in Puccini’s "Madama Butterfly" at the RNCM and Singapore Lyric Opera; First Lady in Mozart’s "Magic Flute" for Civit Hills Opera; Sofronie in Storace’s "Gli Equivoci" at Battignano, Italy; Berta in Rossini’s "Barber of Seville" for Welsh National Opera; Donna Anna in Mozart’s "Don Giovanni" for Opera North; Leonora in Beethoven’s "Fidelio" and Lady Macbeth in Verdi’s "Macbeth" for English Touring Opera; Amelia in Verdi’s "Un Ballo in Maschera" for Opera Holland Park; Musetta in Puccini’s "La Boheme" for Opera North and London City Opera at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London.

During her career Eldrydd has sung in New York, Washington D.C., Sydney, New Zealand, Paris, Scandinavia and Russia. In 2003 she added Capetown, Singapore and Hong Kong to the list. Recent engagements include Mahler’s 2nd Symphony at Ripon Cathedral, Mahler's 8th Symphony at the Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow and a number of performances of Verdi's Requiem in Ljublijana, which was recorded for RTV Slovenia. In 2005 projects included Opera Galas and concerts in Florida, Buenos Aires and Sydney.

 

 

PAUL KEOHONE  

Born in Scotland, Paul trained with Norman Bailey CBE at the Royal College of Music. For Scottish Opera he has sung Sacristan Tosca, Theseus The Minotaur by Julian Evans and covered Alberich Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Edinburgh Festival in 2003. For the Royal Opera, Covent Garden he understudied Parsons in the World Premier of 1984 by Lorin Maazel. For English National Opera he has understudied the role of Teddy Foran in Mark Anthony Turnage’s The Silver Tassie, The Poacher in Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen, Michel in Martin Butler’s A Better Place, Raevsky and Denisov in Prokoviev’s War and Peace. For Opera West (Norway), he recently sang Hamlet in the World Premier of Ophelia by Henrik Hellstenius. Other roles include Der Bauer Schubert Des Teufels Lustschloss for Opera de Nancy, Marcello La Boheme with the Opera Project, Scarpia Tosca with European Chamber Opera and with the University of Kent, Alberich Das Rheingold with the Mastersingers, Jochanaan Salome in concert, Toreador Carmen in Glasgow’s West End Festival Water Sprite Tchaikowsky Cherevichki at Wexford, Count Almaviva Le Nozze di Figaro with Opera Brava, Cascada Lehar The Merry Widow, Mars Offenbach Orpheus in the Underworld and Masetto Don Giovanni at Holland Park, Corpo Rappresentazione di Anima e di Corpo with Opera Italiana, Roderich in Dvorak’s Vanda for University College Opera, Edgar in the British Premier of the opera Vision of Lear at the Linbury Studio Theatre and Ghost of Virgil Rachmaninov Francesca da Rimini and Servant Rachmaninov The Miserly Knight with Chelsea Opera Group.

Paul’s performances in Oratorio have included over 40 Choral societies in the UK performing works from Bach St. Matthew Passion to Verdi Requiem, in venues including the cathedrals of Canterbury, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Southwark and Ripon. Recent highlights include Messiah with The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Bach Ich Habe Genug with the North London Chorus, Beethoven Symphony No 9 with Ashford Choral Society, Haydn Creation with Great Missenden Choral Society, Mozart Requiem and Szymanowsky Stabat Mater with Woking Choral Society, Christus Bach St. Matthew Passion in Liverpool Cathedral, Haydn The Seasons with Stratford upon Avon Choral Society, Haydn Nelson Mass in Canterbury Cathedral, Elgar The Dream of Gerontius with London Festival Chorus, Elgar The Kingdom with Ashtead Choral Society and Verdi Requiem with City Philharmonic Choral Society.

In January 2004 Pauls performance of Peter Maxwell Davies’ 8 Songs For a Mad King with Ensemble 10/10 in Liverpool earned him A Royal Philharmonic Society Award nomination. He sang as baritone soloist on the Roberto Alagna CD ‘Bel Canto’ for EMI. Recent engagements include Mark Anthony Turnage’s Torn Fields with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Future roles include Leporello and Monterone at Longborough.

GERAINT DODD  

Geraint Dodd was born in Rhosllanerchrugog, Wales and studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester with Joseph Ward. Whilst there, he was awarded the Ricordi Prize for Opera and the Webster Booth Scholarship. He also scored a notable success with his interpretation of Captain Vere in Britten’s "Billy Budd". Most recently Geraint has specialized in the Italian verismo repertoire.2004 saw him making his debut for Opera North as Canio in Leoncavallo’s "I Pagliacci",having previously sung this for Opera Holland Park.

Other roles include the Duke (Rigoletto) for Welsh National Opera and English Touring Opera; Rodolfo (La Boheme) for ETO; Don Jose (Carmen) for WNO, ETO, OHP and Mid Wales Opera; Cavaradossi (Tosca) for Scottish Opera, WNO, MWO; Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) and Macduff (Macbeth) for WNO, MWO; Nadir (Pearl Fishers), Werther (Werther) and Florestan (Fidelio) for ETO; Osaka (Iris), Stiffelio (Stiffelio) and Gustavus (Un Ballo in Maschera) for Opera Holland Park; Calaf (Turandot) for Mid Wales Opera; Turiddu (Cavelleria Rusticana) for Raymond Gubbay at the Royal Albert Hall; Pollione (Norma) for San Fransisco Opera.

As well as his operatic engagements Geraint is equally at home on the concert platform with Elgar’s "Dream of Gerontius" and Verdi’s "Requiem" being his greatest successes. He is a frequent guest with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, Halle, Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC Concert, and the National Orchestra of Wales. He made his European debut in Lisbon with the Orquestre de Sinfonica Portugesein Beethoven’s 9th Symphony at the historical Belem Centre. He has also worked with Owain Arwel Hughes, Stanislav Skrowaczewski, David Lloyd Jones and Wilfred Boettcher. Over the past 7 years Geraint has regularly performed at the Royal Albert Hall, Symphony Hall, Birmingham and Bridgewater Hall, Manchester in Raymond Gubbay's 'Classical Spectacular' concerts. He has also recorded broadcasts for Radio 2 on 'Friday Night is Music Night'.
